Ken Mumm's activities so far!
The first day is in the books! 28 holes 3' deep plus the hole for the septic tank. All dug by hand! It's pouring now. Wondering how full the holes will be in the morning ??. That said, feeling good!

Picture 3 above shows the wheelbarrows and shovels.

Today we continued the 44 m trench for the septic system and set some wall posts. (pictures 2 and 5 above)

Today, more hard digging in the trench, but a wall is up! (pictures 1 and 6 above)

The trench is dug. Now we are placing stones below and on top of the perforated pipe. Quit early today because of RAIN! (picture 6 above)

Finishing days.

Today, more hard digging in the trench, but a wall is up! (pictures 2 and 5 below)

The trench is dug. Now we are placing stones below and on top of the perforated pipe. Quit early today because of RAIN! No internet last night. Yesterday, we filled the trench with LARGE stones and the dirt we had dug out of it. Roof is being started, but our week came to a close. Bittersweet feeling as we didn't want to leave the family who we are really attached to, but felt really good about what we accomplished! (picture 4 below)

On September 15, 2013, we were the recipient of many volunteers who helped at all three houses.

Lemonade Stand
On June 2nd "Downtown Kearney" hosted the Lemonade Stand Project to teach youth K-8th the lessons of entrepreneurship. Adult sponsors worked with them to raise funds, generate a profit and give back to the community by choosing a charity to receive their profits.

Maddie chose Habitat because she feels that is important for everyone to have the chance to have their own home. She also liked that it was a community and homeowner partnership in the sense that they had to work for their new home as well as the community helping to build. Overall she just wanted to help a family with kids have a home.

The first picture is Maddie presenting her profits to Charlie Pickens, and the second picture is Maddie's Lemonade Stand.
